How is the build quality of Samsung phones?

I am trying to pick one cell phone from ninety-two on Cingular's site, and likely will not use the camera, bluetooth, music player, and other features the phones have built in. I am just trying to find something with decent battery life and good range/reception.

I am more concerned with how well the phone will survive being dropped occasionally, if I will be able to hear the person on the other end of the line, et cetera. :p

I've had a Samsung A-950 since it came out Thanksgiving of 05 and I've beat the piss out of it...I work in an ER and its been dropped, knocked out of my pockets, kicked, stepped on and it still works like a champ, just a tiny crack in the left corner of the screen.

If thats any indication of how they handle rough play :p

I've had a samsung D807 for 6 months now. I've probably dropped it 10 times, it still works great. Good reception and batteries last a week when it's not used a lot.

Another vote for great quality. I'm on my second sammy (switched plans so got a new phone :)) and the first one (from 04) is still in perfect working condition even after being dropped, rained on, etc, etc, etc. Great stuff.

Ive had my samsung x475 for 2 years, the phone survived my trip to africa in the sand and got 6 full bars! I also dopped this phone numerous times on concrete due to me putting the phone on my lap and exiting the car with the phone still on my lap. It was even washed in the washing machine, although it took about 2 weeks of drying out to work again. The phone still works good as new.

No problems from my D-807 in over a year, though it is relatively well taken care of.

While I've never personally owned a Samsung, I've never heard anything but good thing from several friends who own Samsung phones.

A640 for 8 months now, drop it all the time and it still works. Left it out in the cold a few day ago though and the battery seems to lose charge very quickly now :(

ive only had bad luck with the cheapest of their phones. Other than that, the mid-priced ones (~200-300MSRP$) have never been a problem.

The ring tones are kinda childish, but that really isnt too big of a deal.
