how is the asus 50x cdrom?

i've heard that the faster the cdrom the more likely there will be errors... esp with IDE. my friend recommended asus for an ide cdrom... but he was wasnt sure about the latest one which is a 50x. I was also told to stay away from creative labs. the only asus which i can find now is the 50x one... thoughts?
