compared to GPUs now-a-days? it sucks.
but if you want a REAL review, i'll relate it:
My old 9600pro 128 played doom3 at the lowest settings at around 30-35 FPS
it can play HL2 s'ok (medium settings)
far cry, s'ok (medium settings)

The 9800 Pro & the x700 are very close (maybe a slight edge for the 9800) & the 6600GT is a bit faster then either one.

Someone else may want to affirm or to deny this, but according to my recollection, it's a "waste" of the RAM to put more than 128 MB's on any VGA card from the 9xxxx Radeon series, and the same for the nVidia FX serires. All it does is give the dealer something higher priced to sell that doesn't actually offer any increase in capability beyond the 128 MB's point.

Only ATI's X's and newer, along with nVidia's GF 6xxx's and 7xxx's benefit from 256 or more MB's of RAM on the video card.

plus most of the time the ram they put on the 256MBs are normally slower, giving you less performance...

All the 9600 cards are 128bit anyways... so the extra ram is no good for how crappy it is. I had the card before my 9800 now and I could play doom 3 on medium smoothly and high smooth for the most part @ 1024x768. HL2 was mostly high w/ 2xAA and AF and wasn't bad untill the swamp boat helicopter chase part. That got pretty choppy.

IIRC, the x700 and 9800 pro are the same GPU, except that the x700 is on the PCIe interface. As far as which will be better, the 6600 GT will be your best bet. Also the advice of the other posters is correct, 256MB on those cards is really a waste.

As a side note, I had an x700 Pro 128MB in my system before I upgraded to my 7800GT, and it could play most games at 1280x1024 with high settings at a respectable frame rate. Use of AA or AF did put a bit of a strain on it though.

256 Mb 9600 Pro have 400 Mhz memories, Vs 600 Mhz memorys on Normal 9600 Pro AGP cards.
So its not better than the 128 mb version, if that was your original question. :p
