Hello,

The Norton Antivirus which shipped with my notebook will be expiring in a couple of weeks.
I am a student and my school is offering Sophos Anti-Virus for free.
It's just that I do not really see many people talk about it. Is it any good?

Thanks

I'm at UCLA and we are forced to DL and run Sophos. I haven't gotten hit with any viruses or anything, but the software just doesn't impress me all that much. Then again it's nowhere near as annoying as Trend Micro PC-Cillin 2004 which came with my Mobo. I'd rather go with a name like Norton or Symantec, if not 'just because.'

I'd recommend it. It works, and it's totally unobtrusive. The front end is totally functional and it does the job - if it bothers you that it looks a little dated, well, get a life basically. Virus IDs are also updated regulary on the website which is also bloat-free. I hate software that takes over your system, and this certainly does not.

I used it through UCLA as well for a couple months and didn't really like it. When it updates the virus files, a menu pops up on top of your existing window to show you the update progress. It really annoyed me. I switched to Panda Platinum and have been happy with that.
