I just discovered it on netflix and I know you nerds love this show, so I tried to give it a shot. OMG the first episode is so boring I cant finish it. Does it get better? Has a whopping 8.8 on IMDB.

Like you, I was turned on to this show by all the nerd chatter here. I tried watching it last year, and got through almost the entire first season. I found it mostly boring with very few entertaining moments thrown in here and there. Edward James Olmos was awesome, but too many of the other actors annoyed me. I didn't care for the girl who played Starbuck, and I hated the character Dr. Gaius Baltar, as well as the actor who played him.

Overall, I'd give the first season a 6/10. Above average show, but didn't live up to the hype.

I loved it.

but if you're looking for pewpew laser guns zomgSPACE BATTLES, it's not the show for you.

due to a shit budget, it mostly revolves around personal drama.

this is pretty much 99.999999999999% of the show. I can't watch that show for more than 10 minutes at a time, only the last episode since that's where shit finally starts happening.

I loved it. The first two seasons were the best. Kind of went downhill in the middle of season 4.

Way overrated. I thought the acting was bad and the action was mediocre. The story was good initially then went wayyyy downhill.

If you mean 33, I don't know how you dislike it.

It's one of the best tv episodes of Sci-Fi ever released.

The miniseries and first 2 seasons had a good mix of action, drama, and interesting storylines.

Then it became mostly drama, somewhat convoluted storylines, and some political subtext. And a smattering of Mormon allegory, though it's not heavy and mostly around the colony mythology.

It's worth watching the entire series, especially since it is over now and drawn out character development (like for Baltar, he is annoying to watch) doesn't seem as bad when you watch episodes back to back.

It's a fantastic show. Here are some pointers that should help you enjoy it more:

1. The 1st season is pretty slow. In many ways, you have to force yourself to watch it. By the end of the first season, though, you'll be familiar with and attached to the characters. That's also when the show hits its stride. It starts using a long, overarching story instead of having a lot of standalone episodes, the musical score really comes alive, and so on. The last two episodes of season one are incredible, really. Simply put, it becomes interesting and awesome. It's unfortunate that it takes a full season to realize its potential. However, if you watch the first season after having seen the full series, it's much easier to appreciate and enjoy.

In relation to that, the mini-series (technically the first 3 hours of the show before the first episode, "33") is even slower than season 1. It is required to watch, though. I believe Netflix automatically bunches this together with season 1.

2. THIS SHOW IS NOT A SCI-FI. Don't let anyone fool you into thinking that. It might be set in a sci-fi environment and mention sci-fi topics, but it is a DRAMA (like Lost, Breaking Bad, etc.). It's all about the characters and the story.

3. This show is obsessed with religion. Religion is one of, if not the largest factor in the overall story. It might not be immediately noticeable, but the show heavily factors in god(s), religion, mythology, spirituality, and philosophy into the show. It's amazing how many people watch the show and find the ending disappointing because of this. Pay close attention, and you'll notice that the show is obsessed with religion and god(s) from the very start.

Personally, I've found BSG to be my favorite show so far. I love the story, the characters, the music...you name it! You just have to give it a chance and watch the show for what it is.

I loved it when I started but my interest has waned, and after almost a year of watching it, i'm struggling to complete the last 3 episodes. But I don't know how anyone could find the first 2 hour episode as well as the episode "33" anything but entertaining. They're great.

1. The first season is non stop plot.

2. Most sci fi is drama in an allegorical fashion.

3. Yes, paying attention usually helps understanding something.

uh, that's what made it good. most scifi sees scifi as the end rather than the backdrop upon which to make a good show. so, most scifi is absolute shit.

I haven't seen a single show's action or production values compare to BSG yet.

I enjoyed the series, overall. I was definitely hooked from start to finish.

In the end, however, I have to admit that I probably only liked a few of the characters. The rest of them I despised. Not because of bad acting or anything like that, but because of their actions in the series. I can't really say more without giving away spoilers.

It is indeed more about drama than science fiction. Humanity is its own worst enemy in this show.

yeah, I wasn't knocking it... but the show isn't for everyone, especially not if a viewer is expecting a light action/adventure sci-fi show along the lines of Firefly or something.
