Sorry for another COD MW2 thread.

Just got a PS3 for X-Mass currently playing Uncharted 2.

Wife bought me COD MW2 for PS3 yesterday at Target for 40$. I have not opened it yet and can return it (I think).

I am on the fence if I should return it and get the PC version since online gaming is also free.

Are there a lot of players on the PS3 playing this game online or should I just return it and wait for PC version to come down. Thanks.

Not interested in single player only online, also live northern minnesota rural area. Pings are good enough for CS source.
Not interested in X-Box version (dont have Live)

Thanks

That is my main concern the player base, maybe I should just bite the bullet and get Xbox live
I am kind of concerned about the PC version due to cheats and inability to ban or kick someone.

Anyone out there playing this on the PS3? goggle search just turns up a few threads about connection issues (maybe solved already)

I too received a PS3 and for the life of me I can't find one exclusive game to play and not one valid reason to get a PS3 game that i can play online with my 360. Even tho PSN is free not too many players. WTH is sony doing? If I didnt also get a bunch of BRs I would have returned this. So much potential, so little of everything else.

There are about 200,000-300,000 people online at any given time. There are no issues with finding games.

I guess I will stick with the PS3 version since it is free online gaming.

Those are PS3 numbers right?

During "off hours" last night there were 790,000 people playing MW2 on the 360 last night, not sure how that compares to the PS3's numbers but I've never had an issue finding people to play with on XBL.

I'd bite the bullet and get it for the 360, there's so much stuff the wife and I use XBL for (1 vs 100, Netflix, Zune marketplace, gaming, etc).

Still, there are a few PS3 games I'd love to play...

I have pretty much every cross platform game on PS3 simply because my friends are on PSN and never had any problem finding games in Uncharted 2, MW2, Street Fighter 2 etc.

I do have a 360 with live too but I'd rather play with people I know when I play online. Is the 360 experience better?

Yes but by no means does that mean that you can't find games for pretty much any game at any time on the PSN.

Even if the Xbox live experience is superior to the PSN, I don't see how anyone can say that 360 exclusives are better than the PS3's. Even if you love Halo and GoW the exclusives available to the PS3 are simply better but that is just my opinion.

That said to the OP the player base for the PS3 will still trounce that of the PC for MW2 albeit you can use a mouse and keyboard for the PC.

MW2 for PC : 170K for the month of November http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/12/modern-warfare-2-pc-sales/

MW2 for PS3 : 1.87 million http://www.thetechherald.com/articl...rfare-2-has-obliterated-Halo-3-s-sales-record

That is generally the trend. For any given game released for all 3 (360, PS3 and PC) compared to Xbox the PS3 will have a small gaming community (1/2to 1/3rd) but compared to PC than it should still be significantly larger.

Thanks for replies, I decided to keep the PS3 version. I just wanted to get a feel on how active the online community on this game is for the PS3. Since it still remains unopened and could possibly be exchanged.

I guess I have to pick up a headset for the PS3 too. Wonder if a usb microphone or the eyetoy (with mic) will work for voice.

You definitely might have trouble finding people to play with on the landslide #1 top selling game of the year.

Just for reference, there's 136,000 people playing MW2 on PC at 10:30AM EST. Definitely not peak hours but obviously still nowhere near the X360 numbers. Not that it matters, no one will have any trouble finding people to play with in MW2 on any platform for at least the next three years. This game is bonkers popular.

There are quite a bit of players on the PS3 servers, you have no problems finding games. I have been playing this online since launch day.

<----poster

Tried it for a week now and I cant believe how fast it can find players and start a game.
Was actually surprised as I live in rural Minnesota and sometimes I have trouble finding counter strike source games with pings <100.

Now for gameplay I understand there is a learning curve and that everyone has leveled up and perked up by now. My lowly level 7, iron site only character is being owned constantly. This is worse than when I started counter strike (PC).

I think the main problem for a casual gamer is that you start up a game uneven (leveled up players) unlike Counter Strike you guys start up with the same weapons ,health money.

Kind of frustrating getting 1:5 kill death ratio. Forget camping with an iron site, I have better luck running around like a zombie and spray when I run into someone.

Sorry frustration is coming out, I understand it gets a little fairer once you reach level 40?.

Summary
-no problems finding games in PS3
-currently being owned
-need keyboard mouse stat
