How is LITESTEP these days? *UPDATE*

I've used litestep several times in the past, but it has probably been almost 2yrs since I lasted used it. I probably had win98, and it was a pretty neat program, but there were some bugs and it made my system a bit unstable and slow at times.

I'm finally gonna format soon (it's been like 1.5yrs since I have, and my system is still going fine!) and I thought about giving it a try. I signed up for their damn website now and will prolly take a look at some good themes and all.

Any recent experiences? It's prolly a lot easier now... but I kinda remember editing it back then...

just get XP and install xp themes through reghack (not using bloated 3rd party prog)

litestep is a highly customizable replacement shelll for explorer.

it works wounderfull and its easy to use/configure. and its not nearly as bloated as explorer. just 1 thing. if you run Dual monitors liek I do it has issues. only a few shells are designed to work with 2 mons.

I gave it a try a little while ago and while switching to a different theme, everything just kinda disappeared. I restarted but when it loaded all I had was the background and ctrl-alt-del function. I tried safe mode but same thing. All I wanted to do was get in there and switch the damn shell back. Then I realized I could kill the process, and use the task manager to run a new task (whew, didn't see this right away!), and while looking for explorer, which isn't really meant to be run like that anyway, I loaded windows explorer and just uninstalled the damn thing so it would revert back to explorer.

That's kinda harsh, first time I try it out and it nearly hoses my new format!

I'm debating whether or not to give it one more try. Even the default simplicity theme was damn cool...

You'll be amazed at how much more stable it is, and all other good stuff.
www.litestep.net
(you have to register, but there's all the links and forums stuff you'll need, pretty much)

1) Make sure the shell gets set as Litestep
2) Get an OTS theme (Simplicity, FI), unpack and use LSTS to get it running
3) Something wasn't perfect...a few modules not set up right, or if you try to display them more than ocne (lsxcommand, FI), it'll do that.

I tried it a while ago and the GUI still battled with my full screen applications.
I'd set up a keyboard shortcut for showing and hiding everything, and/or a user that has Explorer for a shell. I've got mine where it doesn't do that, but it was after trying many modules for functions several can do (Shortcut still seems to have some issues with it).
