I see lot of food that says made in China, how is are products inspected. Example noodles, how do we know they didn't substitute some flour for plastics

Where the hell do you shop? I've never seen a food item labeled "Made in China" And I wouldn't buy it if it was.

The chinese noodles that I get from the asian supermarket are stamped with MADE IN USA on there in large letters all over the box. Even chinese people know stuff from China are effed and stay away from it.

tons of food are made in china. Even juices.

I'm sure tons of food is made in China but how much of it really makes it over here?

I always look at the country of origin on food and I've never seen something that's from China.

I did not realize some foods were made in China. That seems very sketchy. It's one thing for physical objects to be made in China. We might get physically poisoned by lead from touching it etc... but actual food that we purposely put in our mouths? Scary.

I just went to look at some of my food and it's all made in Canada or USA. Mostly Canada. Or do those companies actually import raw materials from China? Or maybe we just have tighter regulations here.

Shhhhh...you just described how companies abide by the "Buy American" act. Instead of getting the product made out of the country, they ship the item unassembled so it gets assembled in the US. It's not made in the US, but it goes through final assembly here.

I don't buy any food from China at the supermarket but I do eat at Chinese restaurants on occasion. I'm sure some of the stuff they cook and serve at the restaurant is imported from China. I prefer not to think about it.

Avoiding Chinese food products nearly impossible

Questions remain about organic foods grown in China
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for checking most imported foods, samples less than 1 percent of all regulated products.

don't rely on the gubberment to protect you from anything

The FDA does not have the money/resources to enforce the regulations. It is only good for making sure small, independent farmers go bankrupt.

I think there was a thread about this awhile back, or maybe I saw it somewhere else: Honey laundering.

And the proper question is of course, "Is food imported from China inspected?" Or better yet, is it even going to be labeled as such? The answer to both appears to be, "Probably not." Look at the immense ingredients list on a bag of Doritos sometime, then see if you can find origin information for any of it.

But thank god their economy isn't being strangled by pesky government safety regulations. :awe:

Wow I was just being sorcastic about lead, but it's actually happened? Why am I not surprised.

my bad, it was not lead poisoning, but it was something else that made alot of them sick. Either way, it was from lack of regulation.

they are in corporate pocket. Otherwise how do you explain the chemicals banned in EU being used to make animals leaner is allowed in North America. Nof only that, US is pressuring Taiwan to lift the ban.

Meanwhile, NA people are eating beef laced with Ractopamine.

And a former Monsanto executive and lobbyist as the head of the FDA? Nah, I'm sure there won't be any kind of shady dealings there. :hmm:

Seems that happens a bit too often - high-level executives bouncing back and forth between an industry and the government agencies responsible for regulating that industry. That sounds totally legit to me.

lots of imported food isn't labeled as such because the ingredients are imported, not the finished product. if they make a pie in USA with half imported and half domestic ingredients, they don't label it imported
