How is ebay for buying electronics?

way cheaper/riskier

i haven't really bought much electronics on ebay though; the only thing that comes to mind is x31 thinkpad like 3 years ago

i would stay way from used stuff. if its still sealed and you can get it cheaper than retail or online stores, go for it.

I bought quite a bit of stuff last year during the whole live.com 35% rebate thing. I did have one issue with a cell phone reseller (he had extremly good ratings) where he took a freaking month to ship the phone. at first, i started emailing him every other day asking him if it shipped yet (he kept saying, soon...soon) and then, after a week, he had the freaking nerve to get MAD at me for emailing him so much.

Yeah, of course i'm annoying your ass, you have my $300, I don't have any information about my phone MFer even though the auction said it would ship immediately.

About one day before I was going to get ebay involved, he finally sent me a shipping notice saying "Sorry, the phone was backordered. It's on its way now."

MFER!

only time I bought hardware that I cared about was with 20% cashback and only then with pple who had a lottt of feedback. Regardless, even if everything works out you're still dealing with individuals v.s. a company. So it's much more likely to happen that your stuff doesn't get "processed" or shipped out as quickly as you would like. That and the slowest shipping will more than likely be used. If you have a problem with your merchandise then good luck getting in touch with anybody in a timely manner and even then you get to ship the product back, have them repair it or do whatever it is and then send it back via slow shipping again.

Or you can just avoid all the hassle and pay the $10-15 bucks more at amazon/newegg and have piece of mind

Obviously...but that doesn't mean any normal person wants to tack on a week + of not having their goodies.

Then again, I'm spoiled by amazon prime

I bought a used 60 GB PS3 from ebay during the 35% off live.com cashback. It was a calculated risk but it ended up working on great. Original 60GB PS3, two controllers, six games (3 were pretty good, 3 were sports games) for $290 was an amazing deal a year ago.

I always feel like I'm rolling the dice with ebay but I have even more sympathy for the good sellers out there. It seems like it's even risky for them considering the racket Paypal is.

I wouldn't do it unless it's a cheap item to begin with or if there are significant savings involved. I'm more likely to be able to use a coupon in store or something like that, that makes it cheaper than using eBay.
