Dell must ship millions of monitors each year, given that they are the #1 "manufacturer" of PCs. I don't think they would have a problem.

Dell ships them fine. It's UPS who delivers them. They're the ones who like to leave CRTs sitting in the snow. :disgust:

Maaan... i'm about to sell my soul to the devil for an FW900... i know i'm about to double my debt after lowering it already... but i'm stupid like that. I'm just afraid what the hell will happen to a 100lbs monitor being shipped. :(

i'm sure by now if ups was breaking every single monitor they shipped, dell would have something to say to them about it. I wouldn't worry too much :)

While this topic is here, I'd like to ask if any of you are familiar with Dell's "New 17 in (16.0 in v.i.s., .27dp) E772 Monitor"? Just ordered a system for my dad and I decided to go for that monitor due to the $110.00 price and free shipping. Couldn't find a damn thing about it, though. Don't know who makes it, whether it's a huge, steaming pile of crap or what! It will be replacing a 17" Pixie, so I doubt it will be any worse. Anybody use one or know any details about it?

I'll let you know whether it arrives in one piece or not...

Hmmm, it's .27dp so it's probably a non-flat shadow mask CRT. Basic business equipment.

Just got a Dell M992 19" CRT last week. It's much sharper than the Samsung 955DF peice of crap I had before it. Shipping was 2day UPS.

They pack them as good as any other mfg, and stand behind their warranty as well.

I have found the "new" Dell doesn't have so good customer service - no one there takes any responsibility for what they promise you and you are extra lucky if they bother to call you back as promised.

I guess they have to pay for their new ad campaign, dude. :p

Well I didn't get my monitor from Dell, but I ordered my Viewsonic PF790 19" online from Onvia (remember them? :D) a long time ago. If you know this monitor its one of the biggest and heaviest 19" monitors out there (since its flat). It's working like a champ and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Of course, one of my ex-roomies bought a 17" at a computer show, and then it started flickering and everything turned pink. lol.

I've had no problem with monitors from Dell... once they GOT HERE.

Dell has a nasty habit of selling items as "in stock" when they are, in fact, NOT IN STOCK. You end up waiting weeks, or like me, months for your monitor.

Last X-mas I bought my GF's mother a 19" Hot Deal Samsung monitor from Dell to go with the PC I built for her out of spare, upgraded parts I had laying around. I made the order in mid Nov... I didn't see it until late Jan. Nice x-mas gift, huh?

They slap a shipping label on the monitor's box and they send it to you.

I bought a Samsung 955DF last year from Dell. They required your signture at delivery, so you have to wait for the friggin truck all day. The monitor had no problems.

I've had no problems with Dell but with UPS, they suck donkey's tail when it comes to shipping monitors.

"Hey let's play soccer with the Dell P991 FD Trinitron monitor, this guy Ross won't care ..."

I would worry about the courier (UPS) and not Dell.

Which monitor did you order?

Well I'm about to order a Sony FW900... it's almost 100lbs and i would imagine the box to be humongous... which means a bigger target for the UPS people. :(

If you're getting a good deal then I would BUY IT. Just make sure to pay with a premium cc such as VISA, MasterCard or Amex which will give you 1 extra year of extended warranty coverage for FREE.

It's also a good idea to make sure that someone you trust is there to accept shipment of the monitor. If there are any MAJOR signs of damage to the box bring it to the courier's attention IMMEDIATELY and get their name.

What do you think is a good price for this RossMAN or anyone else... i contacted that seller and he's willing for me to just pick it up since i'm in Los Angeles as well... it's more than a year old though... and i noticed that they're sellin for around $1100 or so. I doubt I'll get the same protection with a premium cc like you said since this is used and it will be going through paypal... what do you guys think? bad idea?

I'm not that experienced with eBay but that's a heck of a deal assuming you actually get the monitor, it arrives in one piece, is not stolen or broken then I'd say BUY IT. The closest I might be able to come is around $1400 brand new from Dell after some coupons.

If you do buy it, make sure it's shipped with INSURANCE!

Ordered on the 17th, up and running this afternoon. I had to sign for the delivery, so I also helped the UPS driver carry the boxes from the street. When I set my package on the stoop, he said, "Ooh, I didn't see that." He didn't even want it to touch the ground! I like this guy :)
