How is Chicago in mid March?

planning on visiting a friend out there in Mid March. This would be the first time in my life that I'm traveling east of Vegas! Anyone know what the whether is like in the Chi in March?

You will need a parka and insulated boots. Oh and take a scarf and 3 days of food in case you get stuck in the snow.

Snow is neat for about 30 minutes and then it's a pain. Only time snow is good is when you're skiing.
