How is cache pronounced?

Cache (like on a processor) is pronounced in a similar manner to "cash" (as in money) correct? I have a foolish friend who believes otherwise.

Peace,

Will

Main Entry: 1cache
Pronunciation: 'kash
Function: noun
3 : a computer memory with very short access time used for storage of frequently used instructions or data

I was at a store the other day and this dude called it Kachee, I was like what are you talking about and then I said cash and he said its called kachee.

The word, cache is pronounced the same as cash (money). It is a French word meaning a hiding place. The verb is, cacher, meaning to hide.

I've only heard it mispronounced a few times. Once was at work with an eastern-Indian on the phone. He pronounced it "catch" and kept saying it over and over again "Oh, yes, catch. I know catch. I've cleared catch and cookies. Catch is gone. No more catch."

I thought it was funny. The more he said it, the funnier it got, too 🙂

i have a friend who called it cock

hehehe... i laughed about it for a few weeks... then it got annoying and i had to tell him

hammer09 -- << hehe kay-shh or cash-shay >>

ENn-n-n-n-n < sound of game show buzzer > I'm sorry, hammer09. That's the wrong answer, but Charley, please tell the audience about the fine consolation gifts we have for our departing contestants... 😉

If someone says Cash-Shay - they either are misinformed or they are talking about "cachet" which is a mark of distinction (i.e. something entirely different)

The annoying thing is that people who pronounce it "caché" think they are right.

Ick.

I agree with the cash pronounciation.

ok, i see humor is lost on this thread. Should I have bolded the 'hehe' or made a 10x10 block smiley faces? 😀

LOL, this reminds me of what my history teacher once said. He was talking about this harddrive he got and he said it was 20 jigabytes. 😀

I'll never forget that.

Like "cash money, bling bling", only without the "money, bling bling". 😀

It took me a while to finally believe that. But I do now, because it's correct.

your history teacher was Jay-Z?? :Q 😉

My favorite way of mispronouncing it would have to be "kack" as said by my former roommate from Boston: "Clean my internet kack? whyda hell wouldahi wanna do that?"
