How is AMD's customer service?

Hello, a friend of mine gave me his AMD X2 3800+ AM2 and it has a few bent pins. Now I am trying to put this CPU to use, but I had no luck trying to fix the pins with a credit card.

So I was wondering, how is AMD's customer service? Do they issue replacements for CPUs? How easy is it to obtain a replacement? Thanks.

I have had CPUs replaced that failed, turned around by AMD within 7 days. I would not think about returning ones with bent pins, however. I recently tossed one into the trash that I bent up and just got frustrated with.

Bent pins fall under the category " Physical Damage due to abuse " and is not warranted by the manufacturer. The way they'll see it is if the person that handled/stored it knew what they were doing then there would be no bent pins.

All you need is a watch repair screwdriver and a good magnifying glass. A credit card is way too thick and unwieldy. Failing that, give AMD a call, you may be surprised by their CS, despite their disclaimer, particularly if you are polite and honest.

AMD CS is great. Just give them a call and tell them you've got a CPU with a bent pin. I've RMA'd a 3000+ Winchester before and they sent me back a 3800+ Newcastle 😛
