How is Amazon for pc parts?

Not interested in the cheapest prices. Just wondering how they are for returns and what not. Is it worth the little extra money buying from Amazon for pc parts due to the easy returns and fast shipping? Bought some stuff from the egg and it took forever to get a refund and also hit with a $30 restocking fee on $200 worth of stuff.

Should of been a Newegg Premier member. Free returns and no restocking fees.

You can get 3 months free for downloading their mobile app.

Amazon is pretty good about this stuff. Just be sure you're not buying from scammy resellers on the Amazon Marketplace and instead, buy direct from Amazon.

Sometimes that can be harder said then done. 🙁

Some things Amazon doesn't carry.

Plus no free returns with Amazon.

I ordered the wrong CPU opened it and everything. Returned no problem. Credited as soon as dropped off at UPS (I chose Amazon credit)

FYI too, Amazon is often CHEAPER than Newegg and other places.

Yes but did you have to pay return shipping ?

I have never known amazon to charge me for return shipping, even on something I accidentally ordered. I ordered 3 SSDs and ended up only needing 2.

They emailed me a pre-paid shipping label and that was that

Maybe because I have prime, but amazon has never given me issues.

What reason did you choose for the return ?

I was ordering what I thought was an EPS12V cable. When I got it, it was a PCI-E extension cable. Went back and looked at the listing and it was a little murky.

Put in for a return, explained why, and they gave me a credit and said keep the cable. Love Amazon.

XMan, I had the same Amazon experience with a cheap gardening book, $9.95 I think. My wife gave it to me as a present but it wasn't worth keeping, almost no information in it. They credited my account and told me to keep it.

Like others have mentioned, amazon is great. Even if Newegg has a better price, I still go with Amazon most of the time simply due to the ease of returns and free return shipping.

I am a prime member.... all return shipping is free for me regardless of reason.
I believe one of the prewritten reason even is "found it cheaper" which is a valid reason... lol..

When I am researching parts or components, I go to Newegg's site because their search parameters make it easier to find exactly what I want. Once I find the part number or model number, I'll go to Amazon and search using that to see who is cheaper. I generally prefer buying from Amazon unless Newegg is significantly cheaper.

LOL, same here. I buy 90% of my pc products from Amazon, but their search system sucks compared to Newegg. So like you, i research the parts on Newegg and then buy them on Amazon 🙂

Same here. Don't forget the superior product photos on Newegg. I've relied on them more than a few times to see exactly what the interior of a case looks like, or the back of a component, or to clarify exactly the type of connector(s) that a product has.

And (IMO) better reviews on Newegg. Not always true, but as a rule the customers at Newegg tend to be a little more computer savvy than those posting reviews on Amazon.

True on all points. I do feel bad for 'using' Newegg in that way, but prime is simply that much more convenient. It'd be great if Newegg partnered with Amazon on the computer segment... best of both worlds.

Newegg has the better selection on PC components (sold directly by them), and their website has a much better search, layout, pictures, and specifications. You can also get free 2-day shipping with Shoprunner if you have an Amex card. Plus, they take Paypal. Newegg usually has lower prices on components (especially motherboards).

Amazon has much better customer service, and has free 2-day shipping with Prime Membership. They also offer same-day delivery on some items depending on where you live. Their website layout and search options are a pain for computer parts. They sell virtually everything on the planet, however a good portion of the selection is only offered by third-party sellers.

Newegg reviews are annoying. They filter reviews, and many are written along the style of "OMG IZ SO EPIC IT RULZ!".

Amazon reviews are usually more 'grown up', and if someone writes a review that is false or just plain stupid, you can comment on it.

That said, I usually order about 80% of my parts from Amazon.

I compare Amazon and Newegg and about 75% of the time I go with Amazon.

Returns have never been a problem with either.
