I never figured out how to make any money at all off youtube, I don't have any popular videos but do have some that got some views but I don't even make a single penny off it so I don't know if you have to be VERY popular to even make a bit of money or what. As for adsense it's fairly easy, I make 100 bucks every couple months and my sites don't get that much traffic, maybe 200k page views per month or so but have not checked in a while, probably has declined.

http://www.iceteks.com is the one that makes the most money. I need to get back into updating that site.

Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit

1. Get hundreds of thousands of regular views on videos
2. Get money

It's hard to make money on YouTube with adsense. That's why there's not a lot of people are making a living off it. You have to be able to create videos that are popular (hundreds of thousands of views), then churn them out consistently. Preferably at least one new piece of content every week.

Take PewDiePie for example. He releases a new video pretty much every other day. His let's play videos can be produced very rapidly without much production cost. Other folks like Epic Meal Time make their money off merchandise. Most of the ad revenue Google collects goes to Google. That's why a lot of producers went to Blip. They share more ad revenue. However, they only really cater to bigger productions. They also force users to view the ads. Though I don't think Blip (and their partners) is doing as well as it was a year ago. TGWTG has been slowly losing content since they cancelled Nostalgia Critic.

It's totally random which vids seem to be popular and make money.

My top video by far (about 10x as popular and profitable as my number 2) is ridiculously boring and is virtually without merit. It's not particularly informative, or educational. I have a very similar video, which is much more exciting (big green sparks) and informative, but it's basically a total nothing-burger. I have no clue why that video is so popular, other than for the fact that youtube seems to rank it very highly in the related video links on a number of very popular (unrelated) viral vids.

Meanwhile, my carefully prepared and carefully videographed ones are basically non-starters.

The income per hit also varies dramatically between videos, presumably due to the value of different keywords. My video of me smashing up an SFP networking module earns about 10x as much per hit as my video smashing up a Xenpak networking module. I guess no one is interested in buying xenpaks these days. The SFP video has made me about $75. Inspired by its rather unexpected success, I spent $25 on a xenpak for my next vid. That vid has brought in about $2.50. LOL.

It's VERY random actually. I don't have an official channel topic or anything, it's all random stuff, but I never figured that this video would be the most popular. LOL

Oddly it was very popular in one shot then died off. I'm guessing it has to do with the search algorthm which is always being refined. So for a while a random video might happen to show up first for a popular search query.

Easy solution to make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ just create a video like this.

See that was easy.

Just another reason to be sad for humanity if that video gets that many views. :(

I wonder if you could even get money from that video as the person owns none of the video he used it looked like.

So far to date I think I've made 700 bucks? Started taking off last year..

I have 93 subscribers... and around 200k views on my videos, I have 92 videos if my memory is correct.

If you make concise / informative / attention grabbing videos you can start building a subscriber base and people will watch your crap.

It takes time to record, time to edit, time to upload... reward = small nominal gain.

But I'm averaging 40-60 per month now and it's residual income.. once the work is done and uploaded you will start generating revenue. I do it because it's FUN, once the fun factor is lost.. then... time to start something else.

i would imagine by getting a lot of viewers and being in the right niche. Advertisers bid for clicks/views. If you get a ton of hits but it's for a niche like banana hammocks you probably won't make as much as a guy who gets less hits in a big niche like love/romance, fitness, etc. I would say timing is important also. Like right now you could make a ton if you had a halloween related video go viral.

this lol

inb4 haters

Honestly I would disable Adblock on YouTube if all they had was banner ads. I disable it on AT forums because the ads aren't annoying. But YouTube throws up irritating video ads before you watch a video and there are popups that obscure part of the video. F that.

I already informed the OP that I don't like him, or the collective "him" that operates behind his username.

What is your content?

The frustrating thing to me about youtube is that those in early get the views, even if they suck. It's the same thing with amazon product reviews; the early ones get votes and it snowballs. I have a video I put up as part of an excellent product review on something and it gets 1-2 views/day. There is then some stupid bitch who has tens of thousands of views because she has the same product review in her title and put it up a long time ago, and literally her review is nothing but a one minute ad telling somebody to click a link in her profile, which gets her a referral.

That blocks the ad's in the video but the person still makes some based on total views.

Just makes watching them a lot better.

Actually, assuming they do get some money from total views even with Adblock, I'd say Adblock may increase revenue. Because I sure as hell won't use YouTube without it, and I think the same is true for many others.

Content : DIY, outdoors, fishing, my dog, car stuff. Literally everything I can review off amazon but you have to make it unique. It's not difficult.. Also make your "additional section" after you post the video very informative so your viewers can get something out of your video. Typical video attention is somewhere around 2 minutes. If it's longer break it down with a table of contents.

/onza04 is the channel.
