How is a blog different than a forum/message board?

Here's a blog. Compare that to these forums and take notes on the differences.

There isn't anything there that couldn't be done on a message board.

The first "post" of a blog is usually more informative and usually wants to make a point. A forum doesn't. Blogs didn't start off with comments so I can't really say they are the same. A forum is well, a forum. Meant for longer discussions IMO.

Isn't a blog a form of communication from one person to whoever wants to view it....

A message board is a community, with communication among everyone, back and forth...

blogs usually have 1 or a few authors.

message boards can have discussions started by anyone.

If you really can't tell the difference, then I don't see how you have good enough reading comprehension to glean any useful information from either type of site.

A forum is for discussion on certain topics. A blog is more or less "this is my opinion, and it ain't changing no matter how much you want it to."

How is this even worth discussing? How is a dog different than a polar bear?

They're both animals, they both have fur, what can a dog do that a polar bear can't? They both walk, they both eat, they're the same thing!

They're both part of the Canis family (I think).

I've never seen a polar bear chase its own tail.

Dogs don't drink coke, they play poker.

You can include pictures and songs on a blog. Most message boards won't let you do that.

Besides, blogs are mostly written by one person, whereas message boards are a group effort.

A blog allows you to rant/bitch, tell stories, make a journal of everyday life... all kinds of things

People can then post comments about it.

However only one person can create the articles, the rest can just comment on them...

Much different than a forum.

usually, yes. most blog scripts add a comment feature, IIRC.

which ends up looking like a thread...hence the similiarity to a messageboard.
