How insane would it be to drive down to Texas from Pennsylvania?

Any idea how far you are talking? I have done the trip from WL, IN to Houston several times and it is not that bad. Roughly 15 hours of driving.

In one shot and by yourself? Or with at least one other person and stopping for at least one night?

After a good nights sleep, driving for 16-17 hours isn't too bad. Pack a lunch to eat on the go, bring some sodas, music, and its actually kinda fun. Just remember to stop and stretch a bit every 2-3 hours.

Also, depends on the car you drive. A nice rental buick is great for long drives, it quiet, the ride is soft, the engines are powerful, and there are actually useable cupholders.

I drive from Pennsylvania to Utah and back at least once a year, usually twice since my parents live in Utah and my car is registered there but I go to school in PA. Not so bad now that I've done it a few times, I have it down to 40hours straight through, stopping for naps every few hours.

PA to New Orleans was about 30hours, not too bad. Tenesse is boring as fvck though.

The thing that'll get to you the most is the boredom. Hour after hour of flat straight road. Definately try to take a friend, even if they don't contribute to the driving at least you'll have someone to talk to. I got a cat now so she's my partner😀 Makes sure you have cruise control, makes a world of a difference.

My cousin drove from PA to OR with her 3 kids, for her sister's wedding next Friday. She must have the patience of a saint, I swear. I don't know how she does it.

3 kids? Purgatory! Even I can barely stand the last few hours of my drive and she has another 12 to go. Ouch.

Having driven all the way across the country numerous times, here's some free advice.
TAKE YOUR TIME!

The best drive I had is when I took a week on a route I was doing in 80 hours. Saw Devil's Tower, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse monument (which was pretty awesome). Even detoured to the middle of nowhere to see Carhenge (The sign doesn't say it, but I know they were drunk).

See stuff. You can afford the time.
Stop in Memphis and do the Elvis thing.
Hit St Louis and go inside the arch.
Take a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery.
Bring your camera.
Bring your dog.
And for goodness sake, bring Depeche Mode's Music For the Masses 🙂

Should have told me she was coming, I could have found someone to go with her to keep her company.

I drove from Houston, TX to State College, PA when I had to move to college. I had a van full of stuff and didn?t want to fly it all there. It was roughly 20-24 hours of driving done over 2 days. It wasn?t SO bad, I?ve been on much worse. I've never drove back home or to school again, but I guess I'll have to do it when I move out.

My dad is driving from Florida to Cheswik, Pennsylvania. No big deal just alot of sleep needed along the way.
