I just updated my firmware on my linksys router. I then go into the router to reset the configuration data, and now I see

ENFORCE AOL PARENTAL CONTROLS

WTF is up with that? I hate AOL, and just about anyone here who has half a brain can use the internet without the FVCKED UP interface AOL installs.

Now the question is, can I downgrade my firmware so I can get rid of this AOL sh!t?

I don't see why you couldn't. Do you have a copy of an older firmware?

Yes, but firmware 1.43 fixes the DoS attack loophole for remote management.

Ah but with the advent of AOL broadband, retail stores such as CC and BB are in the habit of selling them to people who will probably have no clue how to use one. Hence the addittion of AOL crap.

I can configure the router, I just hate that AOL is now a part of my firmware. I do not have it enabled, but this really sucks that it is even on there.

There's no such thing as AOL Broadband. It's AOL and Comcast in partnership. $54.99 gets you a $40/month Comcast cable internet account and $14.99/mo to use AOL over another ISP.

I know that, and their DSL is through a local DSL provider such as verizon, but do you think AOL users know that? Know that they are paying $55/month for the EXACT same service they can get for $40? Of course not.

Maybe some people value having to keep their existing email address instead of changing it...

Maybe some people should get a real email address. In all honesty, I've heard all the reasons in the book, considering my job. Keeping an email address is, by far, the dumbest one. :D

And you're telling me this? :D I work for an ISP. I deal with AOL users once every two days if not every single goddamn day. :frown:
