According to some of my former employers the gpa is not really a factor; this will change depending on where you go. But for the most part they know that it is a hard field, with the average being around 2.8 at most schools. What I was told by the councilors and teachers here at CU is that most of the people that get jobs don't have the best gpa(gpr) but they have co-op experience, and that's where some of the 4.0s get left out. employers would rather you have experience then your nose in a book the entire time you are at school, but if you can get both then you can get almost any job in that field.
Volunteering, job study, and other activities like that help too. But EE are always in need so don't worry to much about your gpa, it is only a number, when you get out in the world you can show them what you know, and that is what you will get paid for.
