How important is your job vs who you are?

Say your boss at your job talked condescendingly to you and a couple other employee's. He's also got you and other staff in your department (in my case sales) cleaning your department (vacuuming, cleaning windows, dusting, etc.) when you have a cleaning staff that comes in every other day. Say he gets mad at you and assigns you other peoples work because of it. What about if you were expecting (because you were told) you would be getting a raise for around 3 months, only to find that you are being delayed yet again for it.

How would you handle something like this if you KNEW it wasn't going to get any better? Simply tell them to fvck off and quit? Or would you try yet again to talk to them about it in the hopes that it gets better?

At this point I'm ready to quit my job and walk out, but I don't want to do anything irrational. I've got a meeting with the head of personnel today and based on how that goes, it will determine what I do.

But for now, does ATOT have any suggestions or comments on my situation?

Let me put it this way, you would have a harder time finding a job that treated you just as bad if not worse than you would finding a job that will treat you better. Don't quit right away. Find another job first, but update your resume and post it all over the internet tonight. No sense in waiting.

Find a new job, then give your 2 weeks.. or 2 minutes, if you really can't stand it and can handle a month without a paycheck.

It's definitely better to find a new job before quitting the one you have, and sometimes a bad job is better than NO job, but I agree that you're being treated like dirt and should leave...as soon as possible.
I never had any problem telling a boss to "take this job and shove it," since I worked out of a union hiring hall and work here was pretty good for many years, but working in the office setting most of you do is different...you have to fill out applications, and they often check references...and walking out with no notice CAN "bite you in the ass" in that kind of setting.

how would i handle this?

1. i would find another job
2. know i had that other job, then wait for him to tell me to clean again and then proceed to tell him to wash my nuts with it after
3. walk out with your middle finger high in the air
4.find said boss's car and deflate all the tires before you leave parking lot

Yup, walking out is stupid. Just start job-hunting, and once you land a new job put in your notice. If HR does exit interviews where you work, you can make it extremely clear to them why you are leaving.

Boss is an ass? He MUST be prior military.

OP: If everyone in you department files a complaint against your boss, HR should get the picture that he isn't the right guy to put in that position.

Start sending out those résumés. That sounds a lot like my current place. We lost two managers and our receptionist last Friday (we're glad they're out of this hellhole). It's not worth staying when hate/dread waking up because you know it's time for work.

quit, but don't burn any bridges if the boss's recommendation would be useful to you in the future.

Welcome to nursing! We are nurses/secretaries/housekeepers/phlebotomists/nurses aides/escorts/respiratory therapists/charge nurse/ OT/PT/babysitters but never, ever, ever fully staffed.

The up side is the job is never dull.

Sometimes boss' need limits defined. If you like the job and want to stay there try talking to him about your job responsibilites.

I had a situation with a boss before where he was used to asking for certain things that would not fall into my job description, I talked to him about it and it corrected itself. I stayed for several years afterward and I always got the impression he respected me for being upfront with him. He had a habit of targeting people who never balked and riding their ass.

YMMV, if he fires you ignore my advice. GL

between 9-5, they can have me do whatever they want, as long as it's reasonable. i give them those 8 hours a day, and outside of them, i don't think about work at all so it makes no difference.

I would have refused to clean, even if they fired me. If they don't respect my expertise in my field there are plenty of other places that will.

Sounds like you work retail.

Why would you wait again hoping to get better? Why would it get better?

I live by two words: pay me!

I dont care how I get treated as long as they pay is good. Sorry, I have friends and family to make me feel good, I dont necessarily need it at work (although I would LIKE it).
