Well without making a YAGT thread 😉 , I am wondering how much importance does writing skills mean to you?

I am sort of seeing someone but I am a bit annoyed by her style of writing emails and writing skills in general, maybe I am too much of a seinfeld fan and very anal about little things ,but wondering is it a BIG deal for you guys?

Well, considering the highly eloquent sentence structure you displayed right off the bat, I highly doubt that you are in any position to judge.

Fair enough?

Her verbal skills would matter more to me, but I'm sure there's some correlation. I can't say that I've ever worried about it explicitly, but I've never been attracted to anyone who wasn't a good writer and had a strong grasp of grammar and spelling.

I am not an English guru myself (although right now it could be because I am sort of drunk 😉 but in anycase I don't consider myself an expert but short forms (not really spelling mistakes) annoy me a LOT, wondering if I am the only one

If she isn't able to exhibit proper grammar and hopefully some imagination, she's probably not for me. It's not that writing style per se is a vital part of a relationship, it's just that writing style is indicative of the person.

pls xplain wtf u mean?

if she is *capable* of proper grammar and spelling, I suppose you should let it ride - unless someone comes out with a study proving that kiddie speak correlates to some undesirable psychosocial disorder (which wouldn't be too far-fetched, IMO).

OTOH, with the exception of a couple abbreviations used when appropriate online (wtf, otoh, imo are okay .. pls, u, and x* are not), it would drive me batshit.

When writing on paper with ink, if your hand cramps and you have to force yourself not to hand draw a winkie after every ironic/sarcastic/witty remark, you need to turn the computer off for a couple weeks.

Edit: And I don't even want to think how long after I quit using IRC that I would think the word "rofflemayo" in my head. Interestingly enough, it never ocurred while I was actually laughing...

depends on the girl.

my college roommate (a computer science major) used to date an English major girl that I was friends with even before they started going out... behind his back, she'd make fun of his writing all the time. he once wrote a poem for her... we all had a good laugh about it at a poetry reading 😛

she dumped him a few days before he graduated and started going out with a fellow English major.

There are extremely important. I require a writing sample and will give a timed 45 minute essay during the interview.

It's very important to me. I hate all this "Omg y ur 2 u 4 ne1 iz plz!!1!!1" sh*t with a passion bordering on zeal. Whenever I see it I picture some little 8 year old slightly retarded kid at a keyboard, grubby hands typing in between bites of his peanut butter & jelly sandwich (much of which is going on the keyboard), the Power Rangers on tv in the background... it's like fingernails on a chalkboard. I can't even attempt to take someone who writes/types that way seriously. It'd be like dating a chimp.

and i like to know that they can write good stuff. any gf i've had, i've made them let me edit their papers and essays. i don't really care about emails and online stuff. but its the nicest feeling in the world to get a nice heartfelt letter.

so i guess there are two types writing we're talking about here. writing in the technical and grammatical sense; its good to know they can

writing from the heart; its great to know they can

😀

edit: i wrote righting instead of writing. in a thread about writing. doh.

About 5 years ago I was talking to this girl at work about this funny apple book I read. I gave her a copy of it and she wrote me a thank you letter. I wrote her back. We began writing back and forth and after alot of letters and three months she became my first and only girlfriend so far. Letter writing nowadays is almost non existant. There is nothing like seeing the emotion, the subtle little writing quibbles, the sensuality.. it was like a present from each of us every time. I'm no longer with her but I have come no closer to getting a gf since her. Hmph.
