how important is the chipset fan?

My chipset fan on the mobo is pretty loud. not sure why, but I've cleaned it and it's gotten better. But it always goes back to screeching periodically. 🙁

Nothing that makes a mobo more expensive is put on unless it has to be. Do not take the fan off unless you plan on replacing it. IMO

Yeah, you need to replace it. The reason your other fan is screeching sometimes is because it has run out of lubrication. This problem will get worse with time and it will screech more and more and then quit entirely. It's hard to grease these small little fans so I recommend buying replacements.

Send an e-mail to Abit and inform them of the problem ............

I have read posts on this forum that Abit has replaced some fans ....... free of charge ..... on occasion ........... ?

<< the fan on my other mobo(abit) just stopped one day. does that mean i'm supposed to replace it? >>

It used to work for a reason, replacing it would be a good idea.

Yeh...jus replace it. I had the same thing with my chipset fan. It was very loud because it ran out of lubication. I just went out and bought a blue orb for the motherboard. It only cost 9 bucks at Fry's and gets the job done in style.
