How important is money to you?

Would you rather work a job for big bucks that you hated for the next 20 years; or would you rather work a job for half way decent pay for 20 years that you actually like?

I want thought out responses relying on your experience in the workforce and how you feel about money. Or how you interpret other people's dealings in the workforce.

Someone recently has been posting thought provolking questions and seems to have been getting some good threads going. While this thread isn't very thought provolking, I hope that your responses will be thought provolking and verbose.

Money is very important. Anyone who says it's not is lying, you need money to survive.
I'd work whatever job I could get that would provide enough money for me to support myself and family.

I spend it... I hate hoarding it... but as I get older and a kid may be on the way, I must start. It's just the wise thing to do... but that doesn't mean I like to...

I hate finance, hate gambling, hate investing... money is nothing but a means to live the best life possible. I don't really believe in "studying" it to determine how to make more. If it comes, so be it... if I get raises... great... I'm not going to kill myself for more.

In short, not the highest paying job (probably not making what I should be making), but I'm content because I love where I am and doing what I do. My finances are just fine with it. Money is not that important to me.

Jesus there's no question. There's nothing more miserable than a bad work envirnoment. Think, where do we spend 8 of our 12 to sixteen waking hours? At work, potentiall surrounded by people you don't like and who don't like you doing and all the while doing some BS job you hate anyways.

i'd rather work where i enjoy working because i'd like putting in extra hours for extra money. plus, i'd just be a happier person.

money isnt the most important thing. unless i cant support me/family....

I'd rather work somewhere where I'm at least moderately happy, shortish commute AND where the employer provides paid fricken health insurance. :frown:

How I see it. The extra money I would be getting would buy me more things to do and play with to enjoy my time away from the hellhole of the job.

IMO .. i think that happiness comes before money anytime ... if your not happy with what you do it will reflect on your life and the people surrounding you.. but on the other hand .. if you dont make enough money to support your family then its kinda pointless on having the lower pay wage .. but all in all ... i think lower pay = better

i'd take half the pay for twice the happiness

assuming half the pay was enough to get me by

i like money, but i know that if i had a job with good money that i hated -- even if it paid well -- i probably would quit. i've done so in the past because it made me so unhappy, even though i quit to no job and no money. at that point, i was just happier knowing i wasn't working at something i disliked so much.

so i'd rather have a job i like than a job that paid well that i hate.

For the first 30 yrs of my life, I made money not that important to me.
The last 2 yrs+, I've made it a priority.

I wish sometimes I should have gotten a real job earlier and save up but looking back, I did enjoy all the leisure times I had.

I would do a job I absolutely hated for a rediculously high amount of money.

To me, a job can never, ever, be fun.

Job = Work = Not Liesure

Liesure = What I want all the time (along w/ tons of money)

I don't care about money, I'd rather have property. Money just sits there looking green. You can live in a house, or drive a car, or watch a TV, but you can't do much with money, except trade it for interesting stuff.

depends on just how much money we are talking here...

if it was a LOT LOT LOT of money.... i would probalby try to do it.

If there was not a huge salary difference, I would take option two.

:)

I chased it for 20 years and was miserable. Last September I decided to take a 24% pay cut and work for the local school system. It was probably one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make but looking back now it was one of the best things I ever did. We still live pretty much the same as we always have and I no longer waste 3-4 hours of my life daily commuting. On top of that I have better benefits and the job security I never had playing the Federal Contracting game.

I think the consenus on this forum is job=money?

Anyone should take a job that they like rather then taking a job that pays more but they hate.
