What types of use of an external hd (200gb) firewire drive made by lacie would allow me to benefit and in what way from an 8mb buffer vs a 2mb buffer. Would I see realworld performance difference?
w/ an External FW drive be it FW 800 or FW 400, the most important part of the equation is the IDE to firewire bridge chip, you are very unlikely to notice the diff between a 2 and 8 mb cache drives on the FW interphase, I would highly suggest getting an enclosure that supports the Oxford 911 or 922 (the 922 is a FW+USB2 combo chipset) chipsets if you want decent performance. Most other bridge chips I've come accross are just terrible and ruin performance. Hope this help....
