You can buy plexiglass cases premade or in kits, so it's nothing new. Metal case isn't terribly important, I've been running my server totally caseless for well over two years now.

As long as there's adequate ventilation and whatnot, I can't see anything wrong with your choice of material.

You're probably safe without the metal case, as long as you don't try and setup a company up to sell them, then the FCC gets involved.

well i have some extra plexiglass laying around from building an aquarium a while back-- wanted to put it to good use--- i was just worried that i'd be putting my stuff at an added risk of being ruined through static electricty / being shocked / etc.. i didnt know if the metal case helped to 'ground' the computer or not.

anyhow--- a prebuilt case would be cool-- but becuase this is going to go with a Mini-ITX board, i'm not sure id be able to find a case for that form factor-- and i've got the extra plexiglass laying around-- might as well put it to good use.

i'll let you know how it goes when i get working on it.

I tried making one out of bologna and failed miserably, but I discovered that, like any other food, bologna is better when fried.

Technically iirc a plexiglass computer wouldn't meet fcc class b specifications. Of course it seems like this gets enforced as much as the 5watt limit on CB's.

ClearPC has an acrylic Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX compatible case. It's $66.

cool.. might look into that.

Sure, you can make a case out of all sorts of stuff. I believe I've seen versions that have been incorporated into a wooden desk, a briefcase, etc.
