I live in Los Angeles, the LAND of the car. Even more than Vegas, NY NY, or any other city in the world, your car defines who you are.

Around here, if you don't at least drive a late model Honda Accord, people think you are poor as sh!t.

The ONLY cars that *impress* are in the BMW 7XX class and MB S class or higher.

I know people who have housekeepers who drive 200X 3-series.

I drive a 2001 Volvo S80 turbo and only a few people have ever told me I have a nice car. (I'm 24).

*fixed for you.
If what you drive defines who you are and is the key to impressing people, then, well... It pretty much goes without saying.

Well, it certainly gives them a glimpse into the size of your bank account....... which could be a good or bad thing. But anyway, if a women is really concerned about how much money you're making/what car you drive, better idea to forget about her anyway.

This isn't even necessarily true. How many posts have we seen on here where someone fresh out of college wants to buy a car costing 2x their yearly salary? It's easy to give a false initial impression of how much you make if your willing to take on a ton of debt.

Damn, 2x? They're friggen poor.

It does a job, I keep it up so it can do the job.
Historically, I have loaded my cars to the gills, and get comments about "why don't you get a truck?"
I like the gas mileage.

I drive an old car with rust but I love it and so do all of the girls I've ever taken somewhere in it. Especially my past girlfriend of 2 1/2 years. In fact she liked it so much along with me that to this day she tells me she thinks of me everytime she sees one of that car (after 8 months of being broken up).

You and your girl can like any car you have if you just make it yours. If the girl is bothered that you drive something old and maybe slightly crappy, then I say dump the girl.

Well, it really depends on your definition of "good." Money will certainly get you a hot woman.

See the thing is, women value money and security, while men value beauty and youthfullness. Thus, men become more valuable to women as they age and acrew more money, while women become less valuable to men as they age and lose their beauty. The best thing a woman can do is find a man with money and trap him in a marriage.

The more money, fame and power you have, the hotter the girl you'll get.

This is all generally speaking, of course.

you are close.......money fame and power are all symptoms of one thing that women look for in a man.......high social status. If you have tons of charisma and personality you can easily make up for lack of money and fame

So is the guy who treats his car well or the one that doesn't look after his car has the advantage here?

Definitely the guy who treats his car well, tho it's certainly possible to take that to an extreme. In my experience, a guy keeps his car like he keeps his house. If the car's dirty, so is the house, and I'm not volunteering to clean up after his sloppy ass.

most people get sports cars for those reasons...but some get them cause they love driving a good car

They're free to own them for whatever reason they want, but I have/had no interest in a guy who thinks that spending that much on a vehicle is a good use of money. *shrugs* I'm sure I'm not the only person like that. Don't you ever look at someone and say to yourself that their spending habits would be a big problem in a relationship?

This is bull.

1) You don't know how much he makes in comparison to the car he drives. ( ei: A guy can make $400k a year, owning a BMW 3 series or comparables would be no problem...would that be consider spending senselessly? What you talking about are poor bums that lease their cars and living paycheck to paycheck....but not everyone is like that.)

It's all relative...

you are thinking logically.....remember we are talking about the emotional response a women will have when she sees a man driving a fancy car.

Im 23, I drive a 1998 Ford Escort. Before that, a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and before that, a 1997 Ford Aspire. I've never gone more than a month without a girl in my life, and I've never had a problem attracting girls (ages 17-25.) Maybe it's different with regards to women over 25.

Personally, I'm more concerned that the car is clean and reliable. Sixone pretty much nailed it. You can tell alot about a guy by how he takes care of his car.

why are you so concerned about his spending habits? its his money. of course its a problem if you are in a serious relationship or will get married, but its none of my girlfriend's business when it comes to on what, where, how, why I spend my own money.

So Bryophyte, what should a guy spend money on to not turn you off? House? Investments? Charity? What if he already has set aside plenty for each?

I'd like to say that a mature girl wouldn't care, but deep down all women are gold diggers. By an overwhelming majority women marry men who make more money than themselves. A car is (ostensibly) an indication of a person's income. I say ostensibly because really, it's not. People with less money are often willing to spend a disproportionate amount of their income on a nice car. That's why they stay poor (but they have a G35 to show for it).
