How important are vitamins when trying to lose weight and gain muscle?

I've been meaning to ask this question for awhile. Anyone have some insight on how important vitamins are to getting back in shape?

From what I know, you also have to be careful that you take good quality vitamins because half of the stuff in stores is crap. But I believe that protein is most important for muscle gain.

eat plenty of protein, drink lots of water

by the way, loosing weight and gaining muscle will be difficult since muscle is more dense that fat...i personally go on a massing cycle followed by a cutting cycle. works best for me that way.
