I have been running idle temps of about 49'C with my Tbird 1.33 for the past few months, and I have been concerned with it since day one. Today, just for the hell of it, I took off one side of my case, left for an hour, and my idle temp was 35'C.... it blew my mind that something so simple could cause such a huge drop.

Especially since I went to the trouble of getting a hardcore CPU fan... so I'm thinking, this must point to my case being a bad air mover right? You wouldnt think so, its a full size tower with 4 big fans..... maybe the design just sucks. Who knows!

Anyways, theres my story.

It also depends on where the temp probes are and where the circulation is in your case. I've been running my case off for the past week with my stock fan that came with my 1.2 tbird and have been getting 40-45 C. Tonight I'm going to put on my swiftech462 and I'm hoping to get better readings, especially when I put the case back on.

Your case airflow must be the problem.
Your CPU fan can only blow whatever air is in your case onto the chip.
You must have lower fans that suck cool air into the case and upper fans that suck the hot air out. Check that yours are wired up OK.
For a good explanation of case cooling theories, check out This site.
Good luck.
