How I got the MSN Passport discount to work through Ebates

Lots of people reporting problems getting the MSN discount to work through Ebates. Here is how it worked for me:

This worked going through 800.com. I can't vouch for it working through other retailers but it should work I would think.

At first the msn discount wouldn't work going through ebates but what I did is I opened another browser page (but not going through ebates on this one). I proceeded all the way through with the MSN discount as well as all the other discounts until right before checkout (at this point all discounts are showing in the second window and it asks you to confirm the sale). But don't confirm the sale and keep this window open.

Then after doing this I went through ebates on my first browser window and the msn deal worked just fine with ebates. Make sure you keep the second browser window open with that pending sale while you go through ebates on the first window. The two browser windows seem to be sharing information which allowed the msn discount to go through with ebates when I did it this way.

Maybe it will only work at 800.com. If anyone has success at other places maybe they can post about it.

Worked for me at Mercata with the SUPER DEAL :) I think the key that people have found to getting ebates to work is to make sure that you set the MSN Passport to remember your info.

Let me qualify that post. I was doing Photo Alley and I "assumed" it worked. I could not get past the white screen going MSN to Ebates to Photo Alley before. But I have never used Ebates before and assume that the banner above means one is in Ebate land? Yes? No?

Madalien: Yes, if the Ebates banner is at the top of the screen when you place your order you should be fine.

Shotgun: Maybe asking passport to save your info works too. Good to know if it does. There is definately some sort of bug with Ebates and MSN passport though because you can place an order just fine by just logging into the Passport without asking Passport to remember your info as long as you don't use Ebates. Having the Ebates banner at the top of the screen shouldn't prevent you from logging into your Passport account but it seems to for some reason (unless you use the second browser window trick or perhaps too if you ask passport to save your info first).

Photoalley at ebates? Damn, I must be blind! I looked through their "electronics" store listing and didn't see Photoalley mentioned. Now that my order is already completed, please don't tell me ebates had Photoalley hidden under some other bizarre subheading...

I have not had much luck with getting the automatic rebate from ebates since they changed over from going through their site AND using their @ebates.com email address, whereas now they just have you go through their site. However, the customer service is good and I do the credit if I alert them to the problem, though sometimes they want me to wait a long time before they'll do the credit.

Set you MSN preference to "sign me in automatically on this computer".

Go to your member page each time you turn on your system and enter you password like you may alter your address..keep that window open and it worked for me three times on Mercate and 800.com

Keep in mind that 800.com will probably F*%^ up your address since them and Meicrosoft are not on the same page as far as that stuff goes..

Later... I hope I added to the confusion!

Possibly more difficult is how to use Ebate+Buy.com+coupons?

buy.com is actually pretty easy. Open up the coupon page and redeem it so it shows up in your shopping cart. Open up another window, log in through ebates, check your shopping cart, and it should still be there. Hope this helps.

Buy.com + coupon + eBates = Relatively easy, a lot more so than 800.com + coupon + MSN Passport.

Simply set auto sign-in for your passport account will do.
I had posted this method in the Compaq 19" monitor deal.

Here I got from ebates.com FAQs
"Please do not have more than one browser window open when ordering, as you may not be properly linked through the ebates.com website"
Are you sure two browsers method will work?

I finally got it to work (I think) using Netscape 6.0 when Internet Explorer 5.0x would not let me finish buying my Compaq 19-inch monitor at Mercata last Friday.
I know I got the Passport and Mercata new customer discount because it was on my confirmation, but the ebate account does not show the transaction yet.
The ebate F.A.Q. says that the transaction can take up to a month to show up in my ebate account though.

Yea, I have had to use that method with a bunch of different sites and ebates for a long time now. I wonder if it's just software conflicts or what?

I just went through as normal, and even though the Ebates banner disappeared, I still got my rebate on the purchase at Mercata.
