How I get rid of SpyWare

Does anyone know how to remove spyware from my system? Friend clicked "NO" on stupid pop up window and it installed itself on my computer. Went in to Add/Remove Applications in Control Panel and no option to delete. I need to remove it completely from my system. It's making pop ups come up all the time. Any info will help.
