How hot was your video card? On oblivion

well...I'm just surprised today that my x850xt had reached 73 C !!!! when I was playing oblivion.. Man I was surprised, I was having no problem at all during the gameplay. But I was wondering how hot is too hot for the card. And i'm not overclocking the card even one bit.

Just a bit surprised, when I exited the game it jumped from 72-62 within seconds.

Now it is 48 C just couple of mintures later

LOL, I wish my card ran at 73C! With stock cooler and stock fan speeds my x1900xt reached 89C in Oblivion. With An Accelero X2 at 100% it still reaches 82C.

damn...these I can cook eggs on it man. literally @_@

whoa

Hey Munky - I've also got an Accelero X2 at 100% on an x1900xtx and mine also gets into the uppers 70s when playing Oblivion. I believe these x1900xt cards are just super hot...

my heavily OC'ed (625/1950) and volt modded(1.4 GPU/2.2 Mem) 7900gt goes all the way up to 47C in Oblivion lol. gotta love that smaller manufacturing process and a zalman vf700Cu 😉

My X1900XT goes around 64-68C with V1 Ultra. This is the game that made me swap the stock cooler. It idles at just above 40C

7800GT 470/550 w/VF-700cu:

68C w/fan @12V
73C w/fan @9V
75C w/fan @7V

23C room temp, 32C case ambient while gaming. Temps pretty much comparable to RTHDRIBL- this game cooks GPUs like none other.

Interesting, my XFX and Leadtek 7800 gtx in SLi caps at 73c also, stock coolers but with a crossflow fan blowing on them

I regularly saw 50 idle 83 load with the stock cooler on my sapphire x850xt at 600/1200. replaced the heatsink with a ATI cooler 5 rev 2 and it dropped to 32C/69C at the same speeds with 35/43C case temps.. Nothing wrong with 73 at all in my opinion.

In Oblivion around 70ºC, stock cooler, with custom fan speeds based on temperature, via ATi Tool 0.25 Beta 14.

On default fan speeds, same cooler, it can go as high as 85ºC.

Other than heating up your case I don't really see why the high x1900xt temps really bothers anyone. If this would seriously damage the card then they wouldn't have been released with such crazy temps. Sure, it does affect overclocking headroom, but is $50 for an aftermarket cooler really worth the 3% upgrade in FPS? If it hits 90C then so be it; if it melts, ATI is going to have a huge problem.

Those things are tested to work under very high temps man. I'm sure a X1K card (or also those from nVidia) can work properly at even 100ºC.

I guess Mr Joe everyone will be worried about such temperatures, and that's normal.

But when you know more things overall about GPU technologies and how they work, etc, then you can say "bah, it ain't cold for sure but it was designed to take such temps so let it go as long as it doesn't actually break it".

mr joe everyone doewsn't even check the temp unless he's told to.

that is one reason i held off on an x19xx though. those temps in my box running 24/7 heading into the summer= wait for the next gen again.

edit- my 7800gtx hits ~65c with a silencer.

Even my CPU runs hot playing Oblivion.😛

sometime my x850xt goes into and stays at "full-whine" [start-up loud] mode for quite awhile during graphically demanding scenes.

it has 2-1/2 years more warranty, so burn away
😀

My 7800GT runs between 71-73 under good Oblivion Loads.
I run overclocked at 490/1200 and have a Zalman Al/Cu.

Oblivion runs my card hotter than most other 3D apps.
