How hot should my chipset be running at?

I took a infrared monitor after just priming my system with on LARGE FFTs and on the HSF of the chipset, it said 50*C. I've got a P4 2.8C overclocked and when I ran two instances, it crash on the large FFTs test but when I ran the Small FFTs with two instances going on, it's been running stable for quite a while so I'm wondering if it's because my chipset is overheating or something...

BTW, after running on small FFTs, the HSF on the chipset was around 30*C IIRC.

I have a p4 3.2 Extreme edition and when I had my stock intel heatsink my systems idle was approx 47c......

Hope that helps!!

Nope, doesn't help at all because I'm talking about my chipset temps, not my CPU temps, I've got no complaints about my CPU temps since my CPU is perfectly stable and I prove this by running small FFTs..

ya know I would bet your crashing had nothing to do with the temp of your chipset.

I know o/cing your computer will raise the temps on just about everything....

But since you said your CPU was o/c`d to 3.5 from 2.8......I would seriously doubt that your chipset was the cause of your crashing....

Because I never had that problem when I o/c`d my 3.2 to 4.0.....

Good luck looking for the answer! 🙂

Oh maybe I didn't make it clear enough, it didn't crash, it's just that prime would fail when I ran two instances with large FFTs but wouldn't fail with large FFTs with one instance.
