How hot should LCD's get?

I recently started using a new Dell 18.1" Digital LCD. After it's running for a while, I noticed that the top of it is getting quite warm. Not "can't touch hot", but almost. It's substantially warmer than my CRT. Is this normal?

mine is room temp...never really noticed it getting hot...probably not good if yours is that hot

When I say running for a while, I mean like the whole day. And it's not burning my hand or anything, just getting quite a bit warmer than my CRT.

Mine's just a bit warmer than room temp (Dell 1504FP).

should have mentioned that I have been online almost all day...and I use an lcd at work and have had that bad boy going for 14+ hours...never noticed a big temp difference

My 1800FP is warm too, guess they just use a backlight lamp that runs hot

Or the power convertor circuitry is in the back of that monitor instead of having a large power brick?

The heat is concentrated in one area and funnels through those vents opposed to being spread out over a large area as in a CRT!

My 1900FP runs MUCH cooler than my G420; Most LCDs dissipate about 1/2 as much heat as a comparably sized CRT. I believe my 1900FP is ~40W and my G420 is about ~70W. The difference is very noticeable when sitting at your PC for a while.

If the TFT has a built in power block, then thats why its getting hot. If the power block is seperate, then start to worry. Check with where you brought it from, or the manufacturer website.

Power block is not seperate.

You say the top of the TFT? Thats logical. Heat rises.
If it works then i would`nt worry too much.
Becides, im willing to bet that it came with a 2-3 year warrenty. So if it does mess up in the next year or so, you can get a replacement.

Yeah, but who needs the hassle?

Something tells me that you wont be too conserned about the hassel if the TFT does mess up.
