how hot is too hot?

I'm trying to diagnose a lockup problem with BF2 and I have a feeling inadequate GPU cooling is the culprit. I'm measuring temps with RivaTuner.

If that's too high, what do you recommend I do to remedy? Is it easy to replace the stock HSF on the card with a better one?

Putting an ATi Silencer on there isn't difficult at all (and will help with your heat issues).

Some people will say that 76C is fine, but I'm of the opinion that it's too hot. How to find out for sure? Try some active cooling on the case (a fan of some sort) to try and get the temps down, and see if you're still having the issue.

thanks Ronin. I have one inlet and one outlet fan, I will first try doubling that. which Silencer would I need? I see Silencer 5 is good for x800 (R430), would that include my x800 Pro?

Not a problem. As I said, before you go that far, make sure you try to cool down the card and see if this will even help.

If you do take the plunge, make sure to not tighten the screws on the back too much..it can very easily screw up the card.
