How hot is too hot for a GeForce 6 Series card to get?

I know that around 70C+ is too hot for a Pentium 4, so how about a GPU?

70C and even higher is not uncommon for a 6800-series card under load. Mine idles at around 60C and rises to about 75C at load, I believe.

My 7800gtx idles at 41c and 57c load

They are a bit cooler than the 6x series. Over 90 would be getting into the to too hot range

In NVIDIA's Properties, in Temperature settings, why is the threshold all the way at 127C by default? Would the card actually even be able to get that far before throttling?

I'd start to be concerned if you were dipping into the 80's C.
Or until your card starts to produce artifacts.

Riddick has some but I dont know if thats from the games shader models or the card.

6800gt will go to 72. i wonder why the CPU is called the hottest thing in the computer when the GPU gets way hotter (probably all of those transistors)

i think my 6600gt will go closer to 80 sometimes...it seems to be fine though, no artifacts or any other problems yet.

Good lord man, you brought this thread back from the DEAD!

But above 90*C I'd be concerned for 6x00 cards. Mine will hit into the 80s when gaming. If I need to clean my fans out again it'll be into the low 90s.

For a 6 series.... I would try to stay under 85C.

My card stock was 70C full load.

AS5 lowered my temps.
