How hot is too hot for a GPU Core?

Please look at this

This is my Desktop with World of Warcraft running. Sometimes it shoots up to 90 C.

My problem is pretty simple. After a while it seems that my computer screen will just turn black and my computer will remain on. I am pretty sure this is an overheating problem but I just want to get some professional opinions.

Thanks

sounds like you're getting that VPU reset thing due to overheating to me.

What GPU is it?
System specs with case cooling details?
Do you have the stock cooler on there?
Is it OCed at all?
How old is it?

90C is kinda borderline for a 6800GT...it's probably within the acceptable range (mine has load temps around 90C), but you really don't want to get higher than that if you can avoid it.

Although you may be able go get away with those temps. it is a good idea to check your cooling and other devices (cpu, hdds, etc). I would check all your fans to see if they are functioning, clean your case out with compressed air, add a PCI fan in a extra PCI slot, and get a new exhaust fan if yours isn't very good.
