How hot is too hot for a 550e?

I just got a new CPU. A slot1 550e from the good overclocking batch SL3V5. It does 770 stable with the default voltage with the retail hsf. I'm running @ 733 for now.

I haven't run major torture tests yet but I haven't had it crash yet. I did have it run Quake II Crusher and crack RC5 simultaneously last night for an hour without a problem.

My question -- how hot do I let it run? My P3V4X and Motherboard Monitor show the temp as 128-132F at full load. It idles at 98-100F. It runs @ 125F under full load at the stock unoverclocked speed. Is 132F too hot? Even though it's stable do I need to add better cooling?

Thanks in advance

The p3v4x isn't inaccurate if you use a later bios/later pcprobe(can get the pcprobe from www.cusl2.com.

Either way, which MBM are you using? And what is your ambient case temperature?

get a better h/sink! although you're well within intel specs for cpu temperature, 132F is a bit warm but you don't mention what your ambient air temperature is:) my o/clocked p3 never gets above 95F with an gorb!

I'm using Motherboard Monitor 5 and have the latest BIOS on my P3V4X.

Is PCProbe more accurate than MBM5?

My internal case temp as measured by MBM and the P3V4X is 78F.

I'd say that that is reasonably close because it's 74F in the room and I have excellent airflow in my case. It's one that I've modded and has around 60CFM flowing through the case.

I've ordered a Gorb, now I just have to hope I don't break my chip! I've never taken the retail hsf off a P3 before...

It isn't too hot for a retail heatsink then. The retail slot1 heatsink isn't very good.

You did order the Slot1 Golden Orb, right?
