How hot is too hot??... Also: Panaflow vs. Coolermaster

i agree that 48c is rather warm at idle, but it's a hell of alot better than 60c. I think the main problem is the hsf... if you've read the earlier posts you know that i couldn't get it fit so i replaced the metal clip with a larger one. I'll probably wind up buy a new hsf and a new case in a while (either a super orb or a fop 32-1 for the hsf, and probably a en7237 case). But i'm low on cash right now, so i'll have to settle with this for a little while. I just wanted to thank all the people (especially tweakr) for atleast teaching me something about cooling my case.

hey, in the meantime you can try this cheap way to cool it. take the cover off. point a small desk fan at your heat sink. keep it about 2 feet away just in case the fan motor is putting out too much radiation (or just too much EMI because they aren't always brushless).

that little band-aid fix got my cpu temps down from 45 to 27. cost: 5 bucks for a cheap-a$$ walmart pink desk fan. and yes, it WAS loud, but it got me enough time to save up for a few case fans and a nice case.

Glad to hear you've seen a positive response from the PCc temperatures. 48c at idle IS still a little high, but for an Athlon it's not excessively so, and you shouldn't have any lockups now at least. Is that 48c in the BIOS readout? If so, try installing the motherboard monitor that came with your motherboard, and get a temperature in Win9x or Win2k (whatever you use). However, if it runs no problem, then don't bother

As for the heatsink clip, I think the stronger clip would help a little here, as you say. Most heatsink clips that are Athlon-approved have a small notch to allow you to use a flat-bladed screwdriver to lock down the clip, that helps A LOT - I don't know how else I would've got the clip on my FOP-32 to lock down.

the 48c is from the software that came with the motherboard. Like i said i'll probably buy a en7237 and a new hsf soon (assuming i can't find the clip, or the clip doesn't help that much). The case is off of it right now and it's 40c (my case is pretty small, so the larger case will probably help out some too).
