It's so hot, the cops are begging the crooks.:D

Massachusetts police ask residents to refrain from crime until after the heat wave passes

It's dangerously hot across much of the country this weekend -- so hot, in fact, that police in Braintree, Massachusetts, are imploring would-be criminals to hold off on illegal activity until Monday.

The Braintree Police Department asked the community to put a pin in crime until the heat wave passes in a Facebook post Friday.
"It is straight up hot as soccer balls out there," the department wrote in the post, which has racked up more than 106,000 shares since Friday.
Yes, a police department really used the phrase "hot as soccer balls."
The department confirmed to CNN Saturday that the post is, indeed, legit.
The heat is criminal enough. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for parts of the eastern United States, including Braintree in eastern Massachusetts.
While temperatures in the area could reach 102 degrees, it'll likely feel even worse: The heat index, or the more accurate temperature your body feels when air temperature and humidity are both factored in, could be as high as 115 degrees, the weather service said.
That's simply too hot for lawbreaking, Braintree police said.
Committing a crime in this sort of weather is "next level henchmen status," the department said, not to mention dangerous to the offender's health.
In the post, the department suggested everyone wait out the heat wave indoors and suspend the illegal stuff until things cool down.
"Stay home, blast the AC, binge Stranger Things season 3, play with the face app, practice karate in your basement," police said. "We will all meet again on Monday when it's cooler."
The message is signed, "The PoPo."
In a postscript, the police pleaded with people not to spoil the plot of the Netflix series' new episodes. According to the post, Braintree police are just finishing up the second season of "Stranger Things."

Seriously, though: Heat waves are dangerous
Heat waves are no joke. This weekend's extreme temperatures are set to impact more than 150 million people.
The National Weather Service has urged residents in affected areas from the Great Plains to the East Coast to take the heat seriously and avoid outdoor activities during mid-afternoon and early evening hours, the most dangerous parts of the day, according to the agency.
A heat wave will continue into the weekend across a broad swath of the country from the Plains, to the Midwest, to the East Coast. The combination of heat and humidity may create dangerous conditions. Remember, heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in the U.S. pic.twitter.com/Iw6IItcvPh

The best ways to avoid heat-related illnesses, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies? Drink lots of water. And avoid staying outside, but if you must, stay in the shade.
Cooling centers and portable water stations are essential in combating heat stroke and dehydration, too, the organizations say. Major cities such as New York and Chicago have opened hundreds of public cooling centers.

We're suffering at 57 here tonight on the south Oregon coast and it was a sweltering 64 today. Tomorrow we might hit 72! :D

Seriously, this heat is a killer for those who have no access to air conditioning. Add in the humidity and you are living in a sauna.

To be fair the pic I posted is from our vacation. We were in Death Valley a few days ago. Neat trip but got a little anxious when the rental mini-van engine temp started approaching red-line on the 5000ft climb out of the valley. Didn’t want to think about being stuck there, even with close to 2 gallons of water per person.

You’re right about the heat when you don’t have access to AC. We have temps like those in the OP every summer in Houston. It sucks but you just go inside and cool off. Everywhere has AC.

Did a trip to Paris a few years ago and it hit 99F. It was brutal because very few places had AC so there was no where to escape the heat.

On a trip about ten years ago I was cruising through the high desert in eastern Oregon on my motorcycle and my air temp gauge read 127 degrees. The sensor is mounted on the front fork, about a foot off of the ground. It was like riding through a blast furnace but I was lucky because my wife was following in the car and there was a cooler strapped on the back loaded with ice water. I would stop periodically, soak my t-shirt and put it on (actually, a few times) and then hit the road.

The t-shirt would be dry in five minutes but that was five glorious minutes in Hell... :D

That you are an old bigot.

I may be old by some standards, but I am no more bigoted than you.

Probably less by definition.

Bigoted - having or revealing an obstinate belief in the superiority of one's own opinions and a prejudiced intolerance of the opinions of others.

This describes many on the forum esp you.

There is a saying about old dogs and new tricks... at some point the brain looses its plasticity to effectively restructure and navigate a new environment.. thus old people likes it old.. I think pcgeek is simply beyond the event horizonth of new concepts.. he is a black hole trying to suck things into a state of old. We should let him go.

No, no, no, no, just NO. You are a racist and a bigot, just accept it and quit trying to compare yourself to others in a lame attempt to deflect from that. Embrace who you are, it's sad to see angry old racists unable to come to grips with something that has been an obsession for all of their lives.

Don't worry, we aren't going to like you any less for admitting this and coming out of the racist closet (so to say) since you've already hit rock bottom in that regard and have nothing to lose. :D

Yeeesh. That's 50°C! I would absolutely not survive that! It hit 40°C when I was camping once and I ended up lying under a truck to get some cool shade!
I guess it's what your used to though. I've camped where it gets below freezing at night and that doesn't bother me but a lot of people freak out at ice on the tent in the morning.

What does calling some a Bunch of pansies have to do with bigotry?

Victorian Gray = Bigoted = having or revealing an obstinate belief in the superiority of one's own opinions and a prejudiced intolerance of the opinions of others.

My fellow Americans, please don't mock us New Englanders as relief from this heat is all we're seeking. Since my visits to GA many moons ago, I rarely chastise others for their weather conditions as it's all about perspective and a point of reference. For instance, and inch of snow in GA causes complete chaos, and an inch of ice even worse...but in MA it's par for the course.

100 F in MA and factoring in the heat index is a very overwhelming type of heat for us, barely functional and not easy to breathe in. And of course, the Police in MA can no longer get easy weed busts with generally complacent and apologetic offenders, so that part of the numbers game is done. Now they're left with drunks, thieves, irate motorists, and actual criminals to pad their numbers with, life's tough in the big city.

How about you go back to where you came from with that socialist metric system crap. We do Freedom degrees here, not Communist degrees.

How much for that burger?
Two pound dollars please.
- customer leaving.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fahrenheit

The scale is now usually defined by two fixed points: the temperature at which waterfreezes into ice is defined as 32 °F, and the boiling point of water is defined to be 212 °F, a 180 °F separation, as defined at sea level and standard atmospheric pressure.

I mean you "redifined" fahrenheit to the same spec as Celsius anyway... just different..

To be fair most languages has it idiotic moments, for example pronouncing the 4 before the 5 in 54 .. reading out longer numbers becomes something children struggle with understanding for an entire class. Its beautiful.
