How hot is a default clocked GF2MX?

Hi all,

I was surprised that my default clocked MSI MX is quite hot when I touched the heat sink attached to the chip. Although the heat was nowhere near burning, but I could feel that it is at least 40-50 degrees celcius. Is that normal?

Yeah, it sounds about right. MXs only use 4W of power hence they don't really need a fan. If you're not having any problems, don't worry about it.

Thanks for the info. Gosh, if my MX is already quite hot, the GF2(Pro/Ultra) are horrible....

Try putting your hand on my Voodoo 3 3500 after two hours of tribes 2... THAT is burning to the touch, at least 70-80C... Damn my system temps will prally drop by about 15C when I sell it, lol.

Mine was so hot I hated overclocking it( I did ), so I found an old Heat sink from a K6-2, changed the fan on it to a new one and epoxied (AS) it on and took the old one and mounted it on the ram, now it stays reasonable even after heaving gaming. Now I overclock it even more......:D

No, not really. They have fans for cooling.

If it took 40W of power you could probably barbeque something on the chip. 4W is right.
