i think mine will be about 65C which is warm (whil;e playing mp3s). believe threshold is ~ 85C. just wondering, thanks. 🙂

If it's stable don't sweat it *pun intended* 🙂 Too many factors involved for an apples-to apples comparison of temps between various 2400+ setups for it to mean anything to you. Ambient and case temps, various board's temp reading differences and accuracy *some don't even provide the die temp* all impact the reported number so I always recommend using stability as a guideline for wether there is a cooling issue or not. Heck, your board may be reporting temps more than 10c off, and some boards even read different from bios to bios.

True, but 65C at ~15% cpu usage is horrible. My old XP2400 ran ~40C in my Antec case, while being overclocked 250 mhz (at 100% cpu load). Right now it's running ~37C in my daughter's case, which has nowhere near the airflow that my 2x120mm fans provided it. But even if your motherboard's temp sensor is off 10C, 55C is still too hot, for pretty much idling.

edit: The processor and heatsink I'm running now gave me a 3C higher temp, both at idle and at full load, when I changed motherboards.
edit2: It's not being overclocked (yet) in my daughter's case, with the same motherboard.

I would agree the temp is "Horrible" if the reading is anywhere near accurate , he doesn't live in a hot region and doesn't have hot supply air, and/or the system is unstable. If it's stable I still say who gives a sh*t?

i've only been running this for an hour 😉

the first thing i did after bootup was to convert an mp3 to a lower bitrate - i was freezing INSTANTLY consistently when doing this before...so it's positive news so far.

Nexus cooler from quietpc.co.uk by the way, standard white heatsink gunk. could do with getting some better stuff, perhaps.

2400+ @ 2520 210x12, 1.825v, 38C Load, running SETI 24/7

ive never seen it over 40C

make sure the HS is attached correctly, did you use a thermal compound? is teh Heat sink fan blowing in the correct direction?

I thought the life of your CPU starts to decrease exponentially after about 55C? That's what I remember reading here on the forums.

Nonsense.

you had to go all the way to 1.8 to get 2.3? what is your FSB and multi?

i've just plugged in my front case fan 🙂 makes it a tiny bit louder y'see :|

would a passive zalman vga heatsink affect temps much? (geforce 3 ultra)
