how hot do celeron 466's get?

According to Sandpile.org...

~17 W (0.25 µm Celeron A @ 466 MHz, PPGA)

Whether it can be cooled passively... hmm. You'd be better off with the Coppermine-based ones around 533-633MHz, which are down in the 9-11W range for their "typical" power. Good luck, anyway. 🙂

There were both Coppermine and Mendocino 533's, but if it's 566MHz on up to 950 then you can be sure it's a Coppermine-based Celeron.

Yeah, the older Mendocinos all use 2.0 volts, use 0.25-micron lithography, and have the distinctive nickel-plated copper heatspreader over the core. The Coppermines use 0.18-micron and run lower voltages ranging from 1.50V to 1.8V, and they don't have a heatspreader, just the naked core. The Coppermines I've seen all are green, too, whereas the older ones are brown. HTH 🙂

thanks for all the info! too bad I didn't buy that cheap coppermine 566 on ebay that I was unsure about. oh well there will be others
