how hot can a xbox get and still be ok?

They just installed digital cable and my xbox is sitting on top of the digital reciever. The thing throws off a fair bit of heat. If you put your hand on it you can leave it there, but it is uncomfortably hot. Can the xbox stay on top of it and be ok?

There's a heat shield on top of the XBox but I'm not sure there's one on the bottom. Over a lengthy period of time it can't be too good for it though.
