I'm runing rosetta@home and my prescott is staying at a pretty constant 57 degrees c

I know that they are ok up to around 70, but will it staying hot all the time shorten it's life(noticably)?

That would depend on how long you leave it running that hot.

I have a Prescott too, Intel P4 HT 3.0 GHz, and I want to know how can I over clock it? (Can I do that?)

Yea, it might die in 9 years instead of 10.

However I'd get it up to 90 degrees so it'll die even sooner so you can get a Conroe. I'm not a fan of Prescott.

Um, you don't have a Prescott, you have a PressHott, as we like to call them. 57C is not hot at all for a 3.2 Ghz Preshott, unless it's idling. It running 57C while running something that's cpu-intensive is quite a good temp. Load temps in the low 70's is normal for a PresHott. I've seen/heard of them running 55C with watercooling.

Seriously, I think Intel specs the MTBF as 100,000 hrs at worst case conditions. That's 11 years at 70 degrees C.

Check Intel's web site to be sure.
