So how hot can a hard drive get? My hard drive is REALLY hot. It's so hot, that i have to quickly tap it first till it cools down a bit. Is that normal???? Is it normal for a hard drive to get that hot if it's been on for atleast 24 hours?
Uh that doesnt sound good. I cant give you an exact temp but if you cant touch your hard drvie it is way to hot. Are you running the drive constantly for video editing or something?? Or is it an ultra high speed 14K rpm drive????
-It's a maxtor 250gb 7200rpm ide drive
-the hard drive isn't running constantly for video editing or anything.
-however it is constantly on because the computer is on.
-i notice that it get really hot when i use another hard drive connected in the computer
-when it's by itself, it's not as hot.
i have a 160GB maxtor that was running HOT too. I mean like >55C or something, I put a 120mm case fan on top of it to cool it to ~45C but I don't like hot HDDs. you could also get a drive cooler. It's worth it.
ok so you're giving the impression that it's normal for it to be really hot then? did your message come across right? cuz that's what it seems like you're saying.
Yeah, my friend has just purchased a Zalman hd cooler and he says it has worked wonders for his HD's. He said it's also not as noisy anymore either, whether that's related to the cooler or not I don't know.
