HOW HOT - 53c./127f.!!!!!!!!

I have a P4 2.26ghz, a lain-li alum case, and a thermaltake heat sink. My processor runs at 53 c/127 f. Is this the norm? I have seen it peak at 143 f. I have read much lower temperatures on web sites. My temperature measurement comes from the BIOS as I dont have an alternate thermometer.

What's your motherboard?

I'm having the same type of "problem" with my new P4 2.53. (see: this topic) It's running at about 55°C, and I was expecting a lot lower judging by what I'd read on the web prior to buying it. 😱
 
From what I've read on the Northwood P4 mobo's, they all read the temp from the processor diode itself, which is a lot more accurate than any board mounted thermistor. Those kind of temps aren't bad at all for a Northie, but if you are really concerned about the temp, you could try upgrading the fan to a higher cfm fan. This will mean more noise of course; it's all a matter of what kind of noise/heat tradeoff you can live with.
 
I don't want to hijack this topic, but I've got a 6500RPM Volcano 7+ HSF on there... is there any possibility it could be mounted incorrectly? I figured that would be tough to do, conisdering there's the mounting bracket built in...

But as long as I've got some word that those temps aren't bad... then I'm satisfied. 🙂
