Old Georgie must be flipping. How high will he go next season to buy.. err... achieve another championship?

Bet the Boston DeadSox will be right up there along with the New York Muts!

Yankees will probably draw 6 million fans next year! So yes, payroll will be higher, hopefully.

How can you be proud of a team that spends nearly double that of it's closest competitor (moneywise) and still root for them?

Does it matter? Your team would do the same given the availability of funds.

Gots to love the jealousy. And no, I'm not a Yankees fan.

Fans are fans because of love, not because of what a team spends!

Many Boston Chumps and New York Muts fans would be shocked to see how much their teams spend too and how poor the results are. Or even the Baltimore Crows, for example.

Being a fan is just that, a fanatic!

It can't possibly get much higher, but I'm for sure expecting it to be around $225 million... As much as I'd rather it didn't, year after year they set new standards and I can't imagine this year'd be any different.

Next up, Toronto Maple leafs continue their cupless streak.

It'll actually be lower I think. Brownie is gone (that's 15 mil), Bernie is gone (that's anothe 10+ mil). Matsui probably gets re-signed for around 7-8 mil and they probably sign either Damon or hopefully a defensive CF. So my guess is it'll be around 180-190 mil.

Could you guys stop with the "buying a championship" thing already. The last 5 years have showed you that no matter how much money you spend, you can't buy a championship.

First the Braves, then John Daly, now the Skankees

Great season of chokers

Haven't watched much baseball this year, have you? The Yankees did not "choke". The Sox choked down the stretch,Many people did not even expect the Yankees make the postseason at the All-Star break. They played great baseball down the stretch and yanked the division away from the Sox.

you can, but there's no way of getting the players that are not free agents w/o a trade.

can you though blame an owner that is willing to open his own wallet to his extent?

there's no mgr that wouldn't want an owner like that.

there's no player that would complain about a owner that is willing to spend to bring talent.

on the otherhand, there ARE players that are frustrated if they look around and feel 'mgmt' is being a tightwad and not bringing in talent.

And here I thought with both the Red Sox and Yankees out of the playoffs, the fan acrimony between these two clubs would die down...

Silly me..

😉

exactly! it was only AFTER they started spending did they start losing. its ridiculous that everyone seems to think that the yankess "bought" the series from 96-2000...wtf?
