how high will gas prices go before you consider other forms of transportation?

Like what, bicycle? There is no other mode of transportation in this city besides motorbikes, which I will not resort to.

OK you have economy car on there. I'd consider it at $4 to start looking at a used econobox for my daily commute.

Driving is an essential part of my job.
I will continue to write off larger and larger amounts in my taxes as prices go up.

At $4.00 I would get a motorcycle and bike. But I would still drive just not as much.

I see 5.50+ you do realize at that rate. You could probably fly to the other side of the country for like the same price as it would take to fill up the avg car.

Some form of hybrid car at $4.00 . Motorcycle is highly impractical for me

Filling my Explorer would be like $80 if gas gets to $4 per gallon. H2 and Excursion owners are going to be shitting themselves at the pump.

I'd say 5+, and switch to motorcycle, but I dunno what I'd have to do in the winter. Get a Geo Metro or do a Diesel swap in my Beetle, I suppose. Or maybe an all-electric conversion for the Beetle, that'd only run me 3-5 thousand.
Would the gov't give me the hybrid tax write-off if I converted my Beetle to electric this year?

An observation: I've posted threads like this in the past (when gas was relatively cheap) and $3 was the "breaking point" for most. Seems our tolerance is going up.

Example. 10/22/04.

Another. 8/20/03

Assuming the average car has a 13-14 gallon tank, that's only around $75. Not enough for a plane ticket.
