how high did you get your kr7a raid?

yo.. im buying a new system soon (see profile) and i was looking at the kr7a raid. my friend told me that he could only get his to 140 cuz the hpt controller doesnt oc well at all. i want the raid version so i can go nuts with ide devices and stuff, but i also want to see how hard i can push this box. did anyone else have the problem my friend did? i'd like to know so that i can change my mind about my mobo purchase if its gonna be a problem. thx.

I'm using OCZ PC3000 mem right now, not sure im gonna keep it tho.

Mine was stable at 142 w/o even trying. No sweat. I know I can push it harder and this is one of the boards that knows no limit. Your firend must be doing somethign wrong. I'll wait till I get an alpha before I clock it over 150.

Mine's solid at 145fsb even though it's in a pretty bad environment for O/Cing. I haven't tried any higher but may once I get the computer moved to a better location in my house.

I'm running KR7a/RAID with XP1600 and Corsair 2400 DDRam.

Game-stable at 148MHz FSB with all dram timings maxed except 2T command rate.

HS is Alpha 8045U. Max temp I've seen under load is 42C.

My XP1600 is locked, AGKGA-stepping, original BIOS.

I had expected better FSB-overclocking than 148 MHz with the XMS2400 DDRam. Perhaps the problem is the cpu-stepping.

I noticed that this cpu is unstable with VCore higher than 1.8V, currently running at 1.775V.

One poster at amdmb.com reported better FSB-overclocking when he replaced the Corsair XMS2400 with premium DDRAM from OCZ. That implies possible problem with BIOS-compatability with Corsair XMS2400 DDRAM. I haven't tried later BIOS versions.

go over to amdmb.com..forums abit and you will see how high people have gotten their KR7A...

the hpt is not limiting the ocing..I bet your friends cpu or other pci component is the problem..btw if he thinks it is HPT..tell him to move the hdd to ide or 2...and see what happens

my kr7a - raid is at 150 fsb...stable..

My cpu is not unlocked so I can not go higher..but I am sure the board would hit at 150-160 probably higher from the reports

hmm.. sounds pretty good.. i have been hitting the other forums, but this is the only one where anyone responded. interesting, huh? the abit forum had nothing to say...

but, yeah, i think this board is the best overclocker of those that are raid-capable. having a locked cpu, AGKGA stepped, seems to be most people's limit, from what i HAVE managed to learn. does anyone know when amd graduated from this stepping? i havent bought the cpu yet, and prolly wont for at least another 3 weeks, so i'm pretty sure i'm safe...

i'll def tell my friend he's a moron.. hehe. thx fellas.

i had the -raid, and an xp1600, and couldent get it past 143, i dunno, it wasent the cpu, i had the multplyer set low, so that wasnt the limiting factor, i may have had a fluke board, but it seems pretty close to what alot of ppl are getting

I'm running my kr7a with an xp1700@1650, 11x150. Have two 40gb maxtor drives in raid 0, the 150fsb seems to be my limit, I'm not really sure if it is the chip limit or my memory 2x256 nanya pc2100. The system runs 24/7 under full load doing UD distributed computing so is 100% stable. I'm running temps of 45c to 46c under load with excellant case ventilation. Be sure to cool the drives in your raid array to prolong their life.

My kr7a-raid and xp1900+ are running at 12 x 147mhz stable but i have not tried unlocking yet. I can boot into windowsXP at 12 x 152 but it gets unstable quickly. I'm 99% certain it's the cpu limiting me, as that's >200mhz over stock speed. This is with OCZ pc2700, Alpha PAL8045, 80mm Delta on 3/4power to avoid the delta whine. It runs at ~28C idle, 32C normal usage, 45C under full load.
Also, my hdd is on the hpt controller too, no issues there as far as i can tell.

Yeah .. well, i'm running 165mhz (fastest settings) fsb rock solid with my KR7A-RAID, using 2x256 Crucial ECC/REG. They can go to 170mhz cas 2-2-2 4way etc. with 99% stability (guess thats it's the audigy card or something that fails @ 170mhz fsb) and the can do like 183mhz+ with cas2.5

You must've been confused between Kr7a and KT7a. KT7a is the one that doesn't FSB OC well over 140fsb. That board has some issue with some onboard chips when FSB OC'ed high. KR7A is very different. It's well refined and OCs like God. The performance is virtually the best compare to any other high-performance boards out there. People here don't mass OC their system. You want to see real OC'ing on that board, go to this site----->>> 210- 215+ FSB on KR7A. This is what I call mass OC'ing. One of the guys named "JCviggen" does 215mhz FSB with moderate RAM timing on his KR7A and others have done way over 200fsb as well. This is nothing new. It's been around a while..

I don't know what the heck up w/ mine. It seems as if EVERYTIME I hit ANYTHING above 146Mhz FSB I get the Windows XP "we're helping you really....we're not letting you start windows b/c we're HELPING you" type of screen. I don't know what the problem is. I only have 1 stick of 256MB RAM from Crucial nonreg/ non ecc.

I have tried putting voltage to the chip, the i/o, and the RAM, but it seems no matter WHAT the settings, I can't seem to get above 145FSB.

My CPU is still locked. I'm NOT running RAID. I have a GeF2 GTS 64Mb, and SMC NIC, SB!Live Valueor Gamer, not sure. I don't know what's holding me back, but I hope that someone can tell me! BTW: I have and SK6 HSF. so, I don't think that cooling is a problem...is it? Is 51C too high?

I have prime95 and hardware Doctor too...so I can run stress and get temps.

Please, somone help! I KNOW that 1595Mhz is NOT my limit on this XP1700!!!
