How high can Duron 600s go?

I -finally- overclocked my Duron 600MHz using some of that cunductive defogging stuff called "Quick Grid Repair Resin" and I'm running stable at 800MHz 1.75v right now getting a 65 on CPUMark99. I'm using an FOP38 and my CPU temperature is 29 C. and my chassis temperature is 26 C. My Duron is week 36 with a green core, if this helps at all. How high can I possibly get this thing? How high should I try right now? Should I "burn in" at this speed for a while before I try any higher speeds?

You have a late week duron so theres no excuse for not jumping to 1.85 and clocking to its highest stable speed. Burn in is not necessary, voltage not heat limits durons. I had the fop38 and it was overkill, the taisol performs just as well.

Well, I have the vcore set to 1.75v in the BIOS, yet MSI's "PC Alert" software says that the vcore is either 1.80v or 1.82v (changes randomly). But, in the BIOS, my highest vcore that I can set is 1.8v. What exactly does this mean? Also, what's a good speed to try now? Jump all the way to 1GHz or go to 900MHz, then to 950MHz, and -then- to 1GHz?

Well, I changed the voltage in the BIOS to 1.8v and now the PC Alert software says that the voltage is 1.86v to 1.87v. I also changed the ratio to 9.5, so I'm running at 950MHz right now with no problems. Ran CPUMark and got a 72.4. Ran Unreal Tournament for about ten minutes without any problems, then I checked the temperature.. 35 C. CPU temperature and 30 C. chassis temperature. Even though it doesn't look like heat'd be a big issue, what temperature is a bit high for a Duron?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blah, went ahead and tried 1GHz and it didn't work.. Kicked it back down to 600MHz automatically. Now I have it running at 920MHz (115*8.0) with the same temperatures as 950MHz, but now I'm getting a 75 on CPUMark.

I heard something about a new BIOS for the MSI K7T Pro2 that'll allow a voltage of 1.85v. Is this true? If I find it, how safe is it to flash my current BIOS with the new one? The last time I flashed a BIOS was on my FIC VA-503+, so.. I dunno if things have changed since then.

Well all current boards are limited to 1.85 bios (~1.88v real volts) without some modification to the board or the chip. Have the kt7 but the msi should be easy to flash if you follow the directions. With the fop38, temperature will not be an issue.

If you're reading from a compensated thermistor reading(later kt7/a7v bios), then a 55-60C is not only fairly high, but is fairly close to what peak core temp is.

In your case, since your readings are not compensated(they are far too low for your case temp/cpu o/c speed) I would not go over a 45-50C reading for your mb. Chances are, depending on your heatsink, that your cpu is actually running anywhere from 45C-50C.

Hmm, is the end of your serial number PAW or PBW? The B ones usually are stuck at a window of 950 to 1Ghz. The A ones have better reports of being able to hit 1-1.05Ghz.

Your temperatures seem high for an FOP38. Check your heatsink contact, and airflow in the case.

I had a Duron 600 running stable at 900MHz. Wanted to hit that magic 1000 mark though so I upgraded to a Duron 700. I've got that running stable at 1083MHz.
